We all wish our makeup would stay on our faces as well as it does our carpets—stubborn makeup stains can ruin your floors and seem impossible to wash out. Stanley Steemer, the stain fighting experts, have created an easy to follow guide on removing makeup stains from carpet floors. You can follow along with the video posted above.

For this guide you will need:

• A vacuum cleaner
• A spoon
• White towels
• A spray bottle
• Ammonia
• White vinegar
• Cold water
• Baking soda

First, pour some baking soda on the stain. Rub the baking soda into the carpet with a spoon; the baking soda should start to become discolored and pick up pigment from the stain. Vacuum up the baking soda and repeat this process until the baking soda will not pick up anymore of the makeup.

Create a solution of three ounces of ammonia and 12 ounces of cold water, and place this solution in a spray bottle. First do a spot test to make sure the solution does not have a negative effect on your carpet by spraying a small, unstained area of your carpet and letting it sit for five minutes. If there is no change in the color of your carpet, spray the stain with the solution. With a clean spoon, agitate the stained area and press the solution into the carpet. Using a clean towel, blot up all the moisture from the carpet and keep doing so until no more of the stain is left.

Flush the area with cold water, and blot the area dry with a clean towel. Mix four ounces of white vinegar with 12 ounces of cool water in a clean spray bottle. Spray the affected area of your carpet and let it sit for at least one minute. This step neutralizes the ammonia. Blot up the remaining moisture in the carpet with a clean towel.
